Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026Wazobia ("we", "us", "our") provides the Wazobia mobile app — a chat, calling and digital wallet service. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Contact us at support@wazobia.io with any questions.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: phone number, username, profile photo, and passcode/biometric authentication (stored securely on your device; we never see your biometric data itself).
- Identity verification (KYC): for wallet and payment features, we may collect your legal name, date of birth, BVN/NIN or government ID, and verification photos, as required by Nigerian financial regulations.
- Contacts: with your permission, we read your device's contacts to show you which of them already use Wazobia. Contact data is matched on-device/server-side and is not sold or shared with third parties.
- Camera and microphone: used only when you make or receive a voice or video call, or attach a photo/video to a message.
- Location: used only if you choose to share your location in a chat message. We do not track your location in the background.
- Messages and calls: message content, attachments, and call metadata (who, when, duration) are stored to provide the service.
- Wallet and transactions: balances, transfers, bill payments, and transaction history.
- Device and usage data: device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, and push-notification tokens.
2. How we use your information
- To provide and operate chat, calls, status updates, and wallet features.
- To verify your identity and comply with Nigerian financial/AML regulations.
- To send OTP codes and transaction/security notifications.
- To detect fraud, abuse, and keep the platform secure.
- To provide customer support.
3. Third parties we share data with
We use the following service providers, who process data only to the extent needed to provide their service to us:
- Flutterwave — payment processing and OTP delivery.
- Google Firebase (FCM) — push notifications.
- LiveKit — real-time voice/video call infrastructure.
- Cloudflare R2 — encrypted storage for media attachments and profile photos.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
4. Data retention
We retain account, transaction, and KYC records for as long as your account is active and afterward as required by Nigerian financial record-keeping regulations. Messages and media are retained until you delete them or close your account, subject to the same regulatory requirements for transaction-related communications.
5. Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your profile information from within the app. See our account deletion page for how to request deletion of your account and associated data.
6. Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, and restrict access to personal data to staff who need it to do their jobs. No system is 100% secure, and we encourage you to use a strong passcode/biometric lock on your device.
7. Children's privacy
Wazobia is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
